season. 1. A period of the year defined by distinct climate, for example, winter, spring, summer and fall or the dry season versus the rainy season. 2. In the tourism industry, a period of the year defined by the desirability of a location to tourists, which affects the number of visitors and, hence, the price of such things as transportation and lodging. Destinations may have high, low and shoulder seasons, which vary in timing and duration from destination to destination.
