pre-trip audit. A process, usually automated, in which a company examines an employee's travel plans and itinerary prior to departure to assure it adheres to company travel policy. If discrepancies are detected, the employee will be forced to change the offending elements of the itinerary (e.g. paying too much for a hotel room).
