channel. 1. A designated passage in a harbor, often dredged to allow safe passage of ships. Any navigable ship route. 2. A relatively narrow sea lane between two land masses, as in the English Channel. 3. Any distinct part of a distribution system through which a supplier reaches a customer. For example, for a cruise line, third party web sites, storefront travel agencies, and home-based travel agents represent separate channels.
